Some scattered Bills news for you this evening: – Second-year NT Torell Troup’s season is over. The Bills placed the big man from Central Florida on injured reserve today as the lower back problems that have apparently plagued him all year finally reached the tipping point and will require surgery. ”They told us that surgery was needed,” said Bills coach Chan Gailey. “He hasn’t been 100 percent really at any point this year. It had been bothering him so he needed to go get it done.” I guess that could explain why Troup really hasn’t done much of note this season. To [...]
So in a game that had a lot of crazy stories, the biggest involved WR Stevie Johnson. If you missed it, Johnson scored a TD in the second quarter yesterday and proceeded to do this: Johnson was clearly mocking Jets WR Plaxico Burress, who was sent to jail a few years ago for shooting himself in the leg at the club. That’s actually not was got him penalized: because Johnson hit the ground on his celebration, he drew a 15-yard penalty that was enforced on the kickoff. Sadly, Dave Rayner screwed up the kickoff, and the Jets scored almost [...]
Bills Ground Themselves Instead of the Jets
This week the Bills were competitive; however, the outcome was the same as the Bills lost their fourth consecutive game. I must say QB Ryan Fitzpatrick had a decent outing going 26 of 39 for 264 yards and three (3) touchdowns. Fitz would’ve added a fourth, but Stevie Johnson could not catch the ball. There’s no excuse for NOT catching the ball. You want to be paid like an elite receiver, then play and catch like one. Bills defense okay against the Jets offense, but could not stop Sanchez on his last touchdown throw, which ultimately won the Jets the [...]
Bills Fight, But Fall to the Jets 28-24
Well, they didn’t get blown out. The Bills certainly put up a fight today in the Meadowlands, but came up just short with a painful 28-24 loss to the Jets. The defeat drops the Bills to 5-6 and probably ends any hope of the postseason. There will be a ton of discussion about this one in the week to come. Here’s what everyone will be talking about: – Stevie Johnson. The man’s going to be a national lightning rod this week. First, he caught a touchdown against Darrelle Revis. He then proceeded to celebrate with a dance in which he [...]
The Bills have a monumental task ahead of them tomorrow: defeat the New York Jets. The Jets may not seem too intimidating with their 5-5 record, but they’re just a horrible matchup for the Bills. And of course, the Bills have absolutely stunk lately. Making matters worse, the Bills injury list continues to grow. Kyle Williams. Shawne Merriman. Eric Wood. Donald Jones. Fred Jackson. Terrence McGee. And now, it appears that neither George Wilson or Naaman Roosevelt will play tomorrow. On the surface, this appears like a total mismatch. But here’s my question to you, is there any reason to [...]
BLD Picks NFL Games Against the Spead: Week 12
Let’s be real: a lot of people love football because it’s the easiest and funnest sport to gamble on. And there’s nothing wrong with that. Personally, I’m too broke to gamble (being a first-year public school teacher isn’t too lucrative), but I sure do watch a lot of football. I figure I should help* my loyal readers out with some gambling advice. Each week I’ll pick four games plus a fifth “Lock of the Week.” *Help not guaranteed to be actually helpful. Well, the Washington gravy train finally broke down last week, as the Redskins finally covered the spread in [...]
Happy Thanksgiving from BLD!
It hasn’t exactly been the cheeriest month to be a Bills fan, what with the blowout losses, crippling injuries, and general collapse of our Bills. But I know I still have plenty to be thankful for, and I hope you do as well. Have a fantastic thanksgiving. One of my favorite blogs, the hilarious Kissing Suzy Kolber, always posts a video on Thanksgiving of a tremendous comeback in a high school game between Texas schools Plano East and John Tyler. Plano East trials 41-13 with just under three minutes to play before staging a huge comeback. If you haven’t ever seen [...]
Our Worst Fears Realized: Fred Jackson’s Season is Over…Any Chance C.J. Spiller Can Produce?
And the month from hell continues. Just a month ago, the Buffalo Bills were 5-2 and on top of the world. Since then, everything that possibly could have gone wrong has. The team has gotten blown out three straight times. The quarterback suddenly can’t throw worth a crap, and when he does, the receivers can’t catch it. The defense can’t even slow down opposing offenses. Injuries to key players began piling up. Through it all, at least the Bills had Fred Jackson, who was leading the league in rushing and generally playing awesomely. Through the midpoint of the season, you [...]
