If Josh Allen continues on with his dominant play that he has displayed since 2020, he will easily be a Hall of Famer and it won’t be debatable. When the Buffalo Bills traded up for Allen in the 2018 draft, a lot of people were already writing the Bills off as they believed that Allen was closer to a bust prospect rather than a boom. Well, now you don’t hear anybody saying that the decision was bad for Buffalo.
While most people would agree that Allen is one of, if not the best in the game, not everyone has the same mindset. In fact, some people might even say that Allen is not a Hall of Fame player right now in his career, which is just absolutely ridiculous. However, Lou Scataglia from NFL Spin Zone doesn’t think Allen is a Hall of Fame player in the league.
Recently, Scataglia listed current NFL players “who will easily make the Hall of Fame one day” and Allen was left off this list. Instead, here are the players that he listed:
Players on Scataglia's list |
---|
QB Russell Wilson, New York Giants |
QB Matthew Stafford, Los Angeles Rams |
WR Davante Adams, Los Angeles Rams |
QB Lamar Jackson, Baltimore Ravens |
RB Derrick Henry, Baltimore Ravens |
K Justin Tucker, Free Agent |

EDGE T.J. Watt, Pittsburgh Steelers |
QB Patrick Mahomes, Kansas City Chiefs |
TE Travis Kelce, Kansas City Chiefs |
EDGE Von Miller, Free Agent |
EDGE Myles Garrett, Cleveland Browns |

WR Tyreek Hill, Miami Dolphins |
CB Jalen Ramsey, Miami Dolphins |
WR Justin Jefferson, Minnesota Vikings |

Now don’t get me wrong, these are all fantastic choices to be on this list. Each of these players have a case to be considered a Hall of Fame player right now, yet Allen doesn’t? Yeah, I don’t think that’s right at all.
Josh Allen is a Hall of Fame player and he is still well in his prime
Let’s just take a look at what Allen did this past season in 2024 alone:
-Became the first player in NFL history to record 5 consecutive seasons of 40+ total touchdowns (Week 17 vs. New York Jets).
-Broke the record for the most playoff passing touchdowns in Bills’ franchise history (originally 21 by Jim Kelly) (Wild Card round vs. Denver Broncos).
-Became the first player in NFL history to record multiple passing and rushing touchdowns, 350+ passing yards and 60+ rushing yards in the same game (Week 15 vs. Detroit Lions).
-Became just the second player in NFL history with 3 passing and 3 rushing touchdowns in one game (Week 14 vs. Los Angeles Rams).
-Became the Bills' leader all-time in total touchdowns in franchise history (245) (Week 13 vs. San Francisco 49ers).
-Became the fifth player (first quarterback ever) in NFL history to pass, run, and catch a touchdown in the same game (Week 13 vs. San Francisco 49ers).
-Recorded his fourth career game with 2+ passing and 2+ rushing touchdowns, which tied Steve Young for the most all-time (Week 1 vs. Arizona Cardinals).
Again, this all happened just this past season. Throughout his career, Allen has become a three-time Pro Bowler, 15-time Player of the Week award winner, three-time Player of the Month award winner, a two-time Second-Team All-Pro, and was named the 2024 NFL MVP award winner. Oh, another important factor about Allen, is that he hasn’t missed a single start since his rookie season.
He ranks third on the Bills’ all-time passing board with 26,434 yards, only behind Joe Ferguson (27,590) and Jim Kelly (35,467). Allen is destined to break both of those records in the next two or three seasons. In addition, he also ranks fifth all-time on the Bills’ rushing board with 4,142 yards being Joe Cribbs (4,445), Fred Jackson (5,646), O.J. Simpson (10,183), and Thurman Thomas (11,938). However, it’s important to also mention that Allen is tied with Thomas for the most rushing touchdowns in franchise history (65). He's putting up these rushing numbers as a quarterback...
There is so much more that I could go into when it comes to Allen being a Hall of Fame player right now, but Bills fans already know his greatness. Josh Allen is a Hall of Fame player right now and if he were to step away from the game, he would have a serious argument to be a first ballot Hall of Famer. The only thing that might hold him back a bit is him not getting a Super Bowl (but it's not his fault as to why the Bills haven't been able to reach the Super Bowl).
