It’s hard to find a week where Josh Allen hasn’t made some sort of history this season, and this week is no different. With the MVP race between Allen, Lamar Jackson, and potentially Saquon Barkley heating up at the end of the regular season, all three players are looking do whatever they can to best set up their team for the playoffs.
Up until last week, Allen was the clear front-runner of the race but with Jackson heating up the last couple of games, this race could come down to the wire. Josh Allen may have just separated himself once again from the rest with another historic setting record against the New York Jets.
First off, Allen rushed for a touchdown in the first quarter which gave him his 65th career rushing touchdown. That touchdown tied former Bills’ running back Thurman Thomas for the most rushing touchdowns in franchise history.
In addition to that touchdown, Allen would later connect with wideout Amari Cooper for a 30-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter that gave Allen his 40th total touchdown of the year. With that touchdown pass, Allen officially became the first player in NFL history to have five consecutive seasons of 40+ total touchdowns.
The next closest player in NFL history to have the most consecutive 40+ touchdown seasons is Drew Brees with three seasons from 2011-2013. After Brees, Bret Favre, Tom Brady, and Aaron Rodgers all have two seasons each.
Josh Allen deserves the NFL MVP award
We have witnessed new history from Josh Allen. Whenever he takes the field, he is the best player and it isnt even close. When you look at what the Bills were projected to be coming into this season, this is the complete opposite. Buffalo has completely dominated and Allen has been a big reason why.
As a matter of fact, Allen has helped the Bills score 502 points this year which is a new franchise record from 501 points back in 2020.
After this game, it would be foolish for Allen to not earn his first MVP award of his career. No offense to Lamar Jackson, but Allen is simply more worthy of it this year when you look at what Jackson had coming into this year as compared to Allen.
