Buffalo Bills: Top 5 storylines to follow during mandatory minicamp
Competition at defensive end
At the beginning of the offseason, the defensive end position could have been viewed as a concern for the Buffalo Bills defense. Von Miller is recovering from a torn ACL, Shaq Lawson was a free agent, A.J. Epenesa is entering his final year and Boogie Basham has yet to make much of an impact in his first two seasons in Buffalo.
However, in just a few short months, this position is arguably now the deepest on the roster and there are going to be some serious training camp battles for a spot on the 53-man roster. The Bills brought back Lawson on a one-year deal, signed Shane Ray (who is a former first round pick), and recently added Leonard Floyd that could end up being one of the best free agent signings of the offseason.
The Bills have had at least four, and up to five, defensive ends on their 53-man roster, and entering this season the players who are locks are Miller, Greg Rousseau, and Leonard Floyd. This leaves one, maybe two spots up for grabs for Epenesa, Basham, Lawson, and Ray.
In such a competitive position battle, the margin for error is very thin and the players in this battle should look to start building momentum now in minicamp.
