Buffalo Bills: 53-man roster prediction after final preseason game
By Joe Cook
Wide Receiver (6)
Stefon Diggs, Gabe Davis, Deonte Harty, Khalil Shakir, Trent Sherfield, Justin Shorter
Stefon Diggs looks as sharp as ever and was the best player on the field for the Bills this summer, even in limited game action. After Diggs has personally shut down rumors multiple times of him wanting out of Buffalo, he is primed for another monster year. Davis was hindered last season by a lingering ankle injury, but still had a solid year. He had a terrific camp and has arguably looked as good as ever.
Deonte Harty used the summer to show off why the Bills gave him a significant free-agent contract. He brings speed, agility, and YAC (yards after catch) ability to the Bills' receiving core. Khalil Shakir started the summer as the number one option in the slot, but it appears like Harty will enter the season as the number three receiver. Shakir had a few drops and now is dealing with a rib injury. Trent Sherfield is another guy who had a great summer. He will be the Bills' number one depth option on the outside and he can play.
This year’s preseason darling for the Buffalo Bills was Andy Isabella. He was signed a few days into training camp and immediately started showing out with his speed. Isabella played great in the first game and continued it. The Bills ramped him up with more starter reps in practice and appeared like they were trying to carve out a spot for him on the roster. However, after the final preseason game, I think Isabella just misses the team. He fumbled his punt return, didn’t get much attention in the passing game, and didn’t get much work on special teams.
Justin Shorter, the rookie fifth-rounder, had a great end of camp and made nice plays in the final two games. He also can contribute on special teams. He is a big-bodied receiver and knows how to use it to his advantage.
