PFF ranks Buffalo Bills offensive guard in top 32 in NFL

The Buffalo Bills will have at least one new starter on the offensive line. Whether that is at guard or center is a bit of an unknown. Regardless, PFF ranked a member of the Bills line in their top 32.

Connor McGovern will be a starting offensive lineman on the Buffalo Bills line, but where, is still in question? I know the team has said they plan to move him to center after they released Mitch Morse. The difference is at that time they hadn't drafted Sedric Van Pran-Granger yet. Either way, McGovern will start at either guard or center for the Buffalo Bills, and PFF ranked McGovern as the 25th-best guard of the 2023 season.

"He was an ever-present figure on the Bills' offensive line, too, playing 1,135 snaps in the 2023 regular season, the sixth most among guards, and starting every game for the team. His 74.2 pass-blocking grade ranked 11th."

Pro Football Focus

This was McGovern's first year with the Bills after spending the first four years in Dallas and played well for the most part. He struggled at times in run blocking earning a grade of 48.5; however, his pass-blocking grade was much better at 74.2. Additionally, despite the very poor run-block grade and average overall of 58.5, he only allowed two sacks all season, 23 pressures, and committed only four penalties.

What to expect from Connor McGovern in year two with the Buffalo Bills.

I believe that Van Pran-Granger will be the starting center for the Bills when they kick off the 2024 season, and that would be ideal for Buffalo. Keeping McGovern at guard helps maintain continuity up front. The fewer changes the Bills do on the line, the better off the line and Josh Allen will be. Having a new face at just one position, rather than two will help the line grow and continue to build the chemistry with each other. Other than left tackle, center is next in line of importance and Buffalo had the advantage of stability with Morse, but that is going to change, whether that's McGovern or Van Pran-Granger we'll find out soon enough.
