Buffalo Bills: Stefon Diggs still a Top 5 WR according to PFF
While the Buffalo Bills have questions at wide receiver, those questions are further down the depth chart. At the top is Stefon Diggs, who has been one of the best wide receivers in the league since joining the Bills.
The Bills would trade for Stefon Diggs prior to the 2020 season and during his first five years in the NFL, he was productive with the Minnesota Vikings. However, wasn't in the discussion of the best at his position with only one season with over 100 receptions and two with more than 1,000 receiving yards.
General manager Brandon Beane would send a package of picks to the Vikings, including their first round pick, knowing what Stefon Diggs could do for Josh Allen and this offense. The results have been excellent as he has had 338 receptions, 4,189 receiving yards, and 29 receiving touchdowns in his three seasons with the Bills.
Stefon Diggs would make the Pro Bowl every season with the Bills while also leading the league in receptions and receiving yards in 2020.
Pro Football Focus ranks Buffalo Bills' WR Stefon Diggs in Top 5 among WRs for 2023
Recently, Pro Football Focus put together their rankings for wide receivers entering the 2023 season and Stefon Diggs would be ranked fifth. He would be ranked behind Davante Adams, Justin Jefferson, Tyreek Hill, and Ja'Marr Chase.
"Diggs has been unleashed in Buffalo, having been capped in terms of opportunity in Minnesota’s offense before he was traded. Since that move, Diggs has 469 targets, second in the league behind only Davante Adams. His receiving stat line includes more than 4,000 yards and 29 touchdowns, and he continues to be one of the most well-rounded receivers in the game."
While there is a concern with how the season ended, with Stefon Diggs' frustration boiling over on the sidelines in the AFC Divisional Round, the reason is that there is a case to be made that he could be even more involved.
Diggs is an excellent route runner that can create great separation that makes him open almost every play. When the offense is struggling, it is important for offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey to call more plays to get the ball to their top receiver.
The Buffalo Bills have made a number of changes to their offense this offseason but this shouldn't change Stefon Diggs role. If the Bills don't add a wide receiver like DeAndre Hopkins, Diggs once again should rank near the top of the league in targets.
