Buffalo Bills: 53-man roster projections after new QB rule
Defensive Ends (5)
Von Miller, Greg Rousseau, A.J. Epenesa, Boogie Basham, Shaq Lawson
If Von Miller's guarantee this week, that he will be able to return by Week 6 from a torn ACL, is accurate the depth at defensive end is not as much of a concern. If Miller is close to returning at the beginning of the year, the Bills probably stick with five defensive ends because early on the coaching staff will probably want to manage his workload.
If Miller's return is closer to Week 6, the idea of placing him on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list to begin the season makes more sense. If that is the direction the team goes, then a player like Shane Ray becomes a real possibility of making the 53-man roster.
The former first round pick hasn't played a regular season game since the 2018 season but if he is able to show some burst and quickness during training camp and the preseason he will be right on that bubble. He could push Lawson for that final spot or the Bills could consider trading someone like Boogie Basham to create that extra roster spot.
