3 possible reasons why Buffalo Bills made trade offer for Trey Lance
Buffalo Bills are concerned with the backup quarterback position
The Buffalo Bills know who their starting quarterback is for the foreseeable future with Josh Allen. However, the backup quarterback position is a big question mark entering the 2023 season as the two other quarterbacks have struggled this preseason.
The Bills signed free agent Kyle Allen to a one-year deal after Case Keenum left in free agency to join the Houston Texans. Allen has been in the league since 2018 and has played for the Panthers, Commanders, and Texans during that stretch. However, doesn't have much regular season experience with 19 career starts.
He has been competing with Matt Barkley, who returned to the team last offseason and spent the majority of the year on the practice squad. Neither player has separated themselves this preseason with their play with Barkley having a great game in the first preseason game but struggling in the second. Meanwhile, Allen struggled in the first game but looked better in the second.
Depending on how the two quarterbacks play against the Chicago Bears, it wouldn't be overly surprising to see the Buffalo Bills look at quarterbacks who are released or made available in a trade before the season.
