It seems that when Josh Allen steps on the field, NFL records are in jeopardy. After leading the Bills to 13-3 on the season with a 40-14 win over the New York Jets, the MVP debate is hotter than it’s been all season.
Allen continues to amaze and push the boundaries of the NFL record books. As we approach the end of his seventh NFL season (hopefully capped off with an MVP and a Super Bowl), Allen is not only setting Bills franchise records, he is setting new NFL records as well.
Allen has already tied Thurman Thomas for the most rushing touchdowns in Bills franchise history (65). Last week, Allen became the all time wins leader in a QB's first seven seasons (76), has the most total yards (30,595) and the most total touchdowns (262). To add to the absurdity of his ability, Allen has the most touchdowns of QBs through 8 seasons in the NFL, and still hasn't finished his seventh. What we are witnessing is truly generational.
Every fan and every person in the NFL media are talking about the MVP race between Allen and Lamar Jackson. Stats are being dissected and someone new is giving their take every few minutes. Regardless of all the media noise, one thing remains constant; the Bills Mafia will always have Allen’s back. The same remains true of his teammates and coach, who have been outspoken for their QB1.
Despite all of this, Allen was the fist to make the call on Sunday to hand it off to James Cook for another touchdown instead of taking another for himself. He knows that Cook is chasing OJ Simpson's franchise record of most touchdowns in a season by a running back, and is now only one away from tying the record (16).
While the focus for Allen and the team is on the Lombardi Trophy, I'm sure they would all love to see the MVP hardware in 17's hands this year too. Considering that Allen has a 114 game consecutive start streak, the most in the NFL currently and 15th longest all time, these guys know he will do anything and everything for this team.
