The Buffalo Bills have already received plenty of backlash for their "Nickel City" alternate uniforms. The all-gray look hasn't been a favorite among most fans, with some calling it "boring."
Quarterback Josh Allen likes the look, though. According to team reporter Maddy Glab, "Josh Allen says he enjoys the new Nickel City alternate jerseys & says they are symbolic of lots of newness this year."
Buffalo will wear the "Nickel City" uniforms in two games this season. Whatever the jerseys look like, Bills fans just want to finally see their team get over the hump when the postseason comes around.
Josh Allen pushes back on criticism of Bills' alternate uniforms
The Bills have some of the best base uniforms in the NFL, with the iconic combination of red, white, and blue. They've had some well-received alternate jerseys in recent years, including their red jerseys and last year's "Rivalries" look. It's safe to say that the "Nickel City" look has been the team's most criticized in the last half-decade.
Fans have been pushing for a uniform incorporating red helmets, but the Bills opted to go with this all-gray combination instead.

The uniform is admittedly bland. The jersey and pants lack creativity, basically replacing the white in the typical away combination with gray. The helmet does bring a bit of flavor to the look, featuring a "charge streak" in place of the primary logo. Still, the release has been followed by mixed reviews, to put it lightly.
Of course, Allen was never going to come out and criticize the team's uniforms, but his response is telling as the Bills enter the 2026 season. He called the alternate look "symbolic of lots of newness this season."
This offseason, the Bills have fired Sean McDermott, promoted Joe Brady, hired defensive coordinator Jim Leonhard, traded for DJ Moore, and revamped their defensive roster. While there are still some familiar faces in the building as training camp starts, the franchise has undergone a massive shift over the last six months. New uniforms are the most minor change of the summer.
Allen, along with his teammates, is feeling the shift this offseason. He's in the same offensive scheme, but he'll be surrounded by a new supporting cast.
If the Bills can pull off a couple of key wins while wearing the "Nickel City" uniforms this season, fans might not be so harsh on the new look.
