The Buffalo Bills are fresh off completely reinventing their power structure to give quarterback Josh Allen even more of a prominent place within the organization. Sean McDermott is out and Joe Brady is in, which may be enough to upset those within the Bills organization who believe Brady gives Allen a longer leash than most quarterbacks in the league.
Mike Sando of The Athletic wondered if promoting Brady from offensive coordinator to head coach, wherein he will transition from more of a "confidant" of Allen to the overseer of everything, could be tough to reconcile.
Sando noted that Allen has full control over the pass protection setup, which has been a "little bit of a source of frustration" on the Buffalo staff. Could Allen be even more empowered now that he has one of his biggest supporters in the most important position on the staff? If he is empowered, is that going to be enough to get this team over the hump?

The Bills are in the middle of a very confusing and frustrating time that teams with elite quarterbacks who can't break through in the postseason always find themselves in. Their star play under center will always have them in the picture, so wholesale changes are unattractive. However, this team also can't be content with just running it back every single season.
Going from a defensive coach in McDermott to a well-regarded offensive mind in Brady could be the system shock this team needs, all while Allen continues to fight for MVPs. However, there's an equally valid world in which losing McDermott and his leadership can set this team up for failure.
After years of playoff failures, Allen failing to break through this year could prompt more blowback than in any other. Not only is there a new coach in town, but it's his former OC who undoubtedly got a vote of confidence from No. 17 during the hiring process. Allen may have as much say as anyone else when it comes to the day-to-day goings-on with the Bills.
Allen putting his usual brilliant level of play on the field will be more than enough to quite any questions about the power structure. Without it, however, another postseason loss without at least a taste of Super Bowl experience could look the Bills look like a rudderless ship who adding coaching instability to the lost of problems facing the organization.
