The 2025 NFL season is coming closer and closer each day and we cannot wait for the greatest time of the year to happen. It’s a big season for the Buffalo Bills, who bulked up on defense this offseason and will return a majority of their starters on offense led by the MVP, Josh Allen. Their Week 1 matchup of hosting the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday Night Football is a tone-setter for the rest of the season. Will Buffalo show up? We sure hope so…

Before we get to the regular season, teams will first go through training camp and preseason to figure out which players are going to be on the roster. It’s a tough job for the coaching staff and front office as there might be some talented players (and potentially fan-favorites) who don’t make it for various reasons.

Training camp will be a great time like always as fans will get the chance to not only witness the Hard Knocks setup, but to also keep an eye on position battles and do their own evaluation of the roster as well. With that, we get into the three biggest questions that the Bills will have to figure out sooner than later in training camp at St. John Fisher University.

3 major questions Bills must answer in training camp

Who is taking the final WR spot?

The Bills will more than likely bring on 5-7 wide receivers onto the main roster. However, they should be bringing on no less than six. You need depth and versatility for other positions as well on the offense and on special teams.

I firmly believe that the five locks to make this roster at wide receiver include Keon Coleman, Khalil Shakir, Joshua Palmer, Elijah Moore, and Curtis Samuel. If the Bills are looking to bring on six receivers, that leaves one spot open for a potential battle between Laviska Shenault, Tyrell Shavers, and rookie Kaden Prather. It may not look like a huge position battle, but it could be an important one.

Will James Cook get a contract extension before Week 1?

The biggest story of the Bills’ offseason and it hasn’t exactly been a great one involving running back James Cook, who is looking to get paid big time going into his contract year of his rookie contract. He’s stated that he wants atleast $15 million per year and Brandon Beane has said that Cook and the Bills were not close to a contract agreement.

Maybe things change from now until the start of the season but for now, Cook may not get his contract extension anytime soon or at all from the Bills. This will be an interesting story as it develops.

Will DT DaQuan Jones make the final roster?

This question might not be asked about as much considering that it might be nothing to look into. However, with the Bills having an overhaul of new defensive linemen for 2025, it has to make you wonder if DaQuan Jones (who is entering a contract year) will be on the roster by the time the preseason is done.

According to overthecap.com, if the Bills release Jones they will save $5.5 million on the cap. Since the Bills drafted T.J. Sanders and Deone Walker, and will have Larry Ogunjobi once he comes back from his suspension, Jones could be a surprise cut candidate by the time late August comes around.
