Buffalo Bills announce their initial 53-man roster for the 2022 season
The Buffalo Bills finalized their initial 53-man roster on Tuesday afternoon ahead of the NFL’s deadline. Over the past few days, they have been cutting their roster and released six players on Monday.
Then on Tuesday morning, it was reported that veterans O.J. Howard and Duke Johnson were also going to be released. That was confirmed by the Bills when they announced their final round of cuts in the afternoon. The 17 players that were released on Tuesday included:
- O.J. Howard
- Duke Johnson
- Alec Anderson
- Matt Barkley
- Greg Mancz
- Luke Tenuta
- Raheem Blackshear
- Tanner Gentry
- Isaiah Hodgins
- Mike Love
- Kingsley Jonathan
- Brandin Bryant
- Prince Emili
- C.J. Brewer
- Joe Giles-Harris
- Nick McCloud
- Ja’Marcus Ingram
In addition to the players that were released, the Buffalo Bills also moved Tre’Davious White to the reserve/PUP list. This means he will miss at least the first four games of the regular season and the earliest he will be able to return is Week 5 against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The Bills also reached an injury settlement with defensive tackle Eli Ankou and moved Andre Smith to the suspension list and he will miss the first six games this season.
Buffalo Bills are not done making changes to their 53-man roster
Over the next few days, the Buffalo Bills will continue to work on the roster and likely move some players to injured reserve tomorrow. In addition, the Bills will need to sign a punter after the release of Matt Araiza over the weekend.
Fortunately for the Bills, there are a number of good punters that are currently looking for new teams. The Tennessee Titans released Brett Kern, who is a former three-time Pro Bowl punter, the Denver Broncos released Sam Martin, who has averaged over 46 yards per punt the past two years, and the Cincinnati Bengals released Drue Chrisman, who had a good preseason.
The Buffalo Bills will have to create room for their next punter and the team will have to release a player that is currently on the roster.
