Entering training camp, there was plenty of questions at cornerback as the Buffalo Bills didn’t know when Tre’Davious White might be ready and outside of Taron Johnson basically, every other player at the position is very inexperienced.

The expectation was that Dane Jackson and Kaiir Elam would be the starters in place of White but further down the depth chart was going to be an open competition. One of the players that were going to factor into that competition was sixth round draft pick Christian Benford.

For most teams, draft picks almost always make the roster as a rookie but with the depth the Bills have, it isn’t a certainty and these players have to earn their spot. Benford has done that and has even pushed Elam for potentially that starting job in Week 1 if Tre’Davious White is not ready.

He has played well for the most part in both preseason games but the one against the Colts was probably his best as he allowed only 11 receiving yards on 23 coverage snaps, according to Pro Football Focus.

Christian Benford may not play much this season but he certainly is going to be a part of the cornerback position on the team’s 53-man roster.
