Recapping the Buffalo Bills rookies performance against the Broncos
Christian Benford
Christian Benford played 23 defensive snaps against the Denver Broncos, only three fewer than Elam, and finished the game with one tackle. He also was called for illegal contact that extended the drive for the Broncos on their second series as it was 3rd and 11 and Josh Johnson didn’t complete the pass.
Similar to Elam, Christian Benford will need to work on penalties because opposing teams are going to throw toward the rookies and the defense can’t afford to have them extending drives for the opposing team.
Luke Tenuta
Luke Tenuta once again played a majority of the game and was on the field for 40 snaps, which was the third most of any player on the offensive side of the ball. There wasn’t anything that jumped out during the game from Tenuta but he was called for a false start on the team’s final drive of the first half.
At this point, he still looks like he is a long shot to make the 53-man roster but with the extra work, he seems to be a part of the Bills’ plans as a member of the practice squad.
Baylon Spector
For the second straight week, Baylon Spector led the team in tackles with eight and would play 26 defensive snaps (39%). However, he struggled more in pass coverage this week as Thad Brown noted in his tweet.
This week Spector also was a big part of special teams this week with 10 special teams snaps or 42% of the special teams snaps. This was the same as Joe Giles-Harris, who he likely is competing with for a roster spot. That final linebacker spot is one that has to be heavily involved on special teams and contribute.
This will likely be the deciding factor in that final spot between Spector and some of the other linebackers.
