Khalil Shakir

For the second straight preseason game, Khalil Shakir led the Buffalo Bills in receiving yards with 59. He would catch all three of his targets and once again his longest reception was for 25 yards.

If Shakir continues to play at this level, the Buffalo Bills are going to have to find a way to get him on the field on offense.

However, the rookie appears to have a prominent role already carved out as he looks to be the starting punt returner this season as he once again was back to return a punt against Denver. The Bills released Tavon Austin on Monday which also creates that path for Shakir to the starting job.

Matt Araiza

Another rookie who is in line to be the starter is punter Matt Araiza as the Bills released Matt Haack after the Broncos game. However, due to the efficiency of the offense, with touchdowns on their first six drives, Araiza didn’t get a chance to punt. The only punt of the game was by Haack that was downed inside the 20 yard line.

However, Araiza got plenty of experience as the holder for Bass and the rookie was on the field for all six of Bass’ extra point attempts. At this point, this is probably the more important area for him to get experience and is something the Bills hope he will get to do more of in the final preseason game against the Carolina Panthers.
