The Buffalo Bills this week against the Denver Broncos had a majority of their starters in the game and they would play around a quarter of the game. This was necessary as the coaching staff tries to get those players ready for the season but it also creates a challenge for the players further down the depth chart competing for a spot on the 53-man roster.

Even with limited opportunities in this game, there were four players who are on the roster bubble that stood out and made a strong case for one of those roster spots.

Let’s start with one player who for a second straight week had a really impressive performance in running back Raheem Blackshear. Unfortunately, so did every other running back on the Buffalo Bills as they would gain over 200 yards on the ground and four rushing touchdowns.

Blackshear finished the game leading the team in rushing yards with 58 and averaged 11.6 yards per carry. He also had two receptions and gained 21 yards as well as a 21-yard kickoff return.

The Buffalo Bills are unlikely to find a spot on the 53-man roster for Blackshear with Devin Singletary, Zack Moss, and James Cook but Blackshear has absolutely earned a spot on the practice squad.

However, this is not a guarantee as Blackshear could generate some interest as a free agent from other NFL teams after he is cut if that happens.
