Micah Hyde ranked 50th overall in NFL Network’s Top 100 players of 2022
The NFL Network continued their annual rankings of the Top 100 players of 2022 and after the Bills had only one player ranked from 100 to 51, they continued the countdown with a cornerstone of the Buffalo Bills defense with safety Micah Hyde at 50.
Hyde has been a key part of the Bills’ secondary since joining the franchise in 2017 as a free agent. He has helped the Bills finish near the top of the league in most defensive passing statistical categories almost every year he has been in Buffalo and has made the Pro Bowl once and been named second-team All-Pro twice, including last year.
This past season was by far one of his best as he would finish the year with 72 total tackles, five interceptions and 10 passes defended.
Buffalo Bills could need Micah Hyde even more this season
Last year, the Buffalo Bills gave up the fewest passing touchdowns, fewest passing yards, and were tied for third in interceptions. This season, if the Bills hope to replicate that performance they could be looking for more from Micah Hyde.
The reason is the Bills are likely going to be without cornerback Tre’Davious White to start the season. He is still working his way back from an ACL injury last year and is currently on the PUP list.
This means the Buffalo Bills are likely to go with an inexperienced group that consists of Dane Jackson, Kaiir Elam, and Christian Benford. It will create some pressure on Hyde and Jordan Poyer to make sure they are covering for these young cornerbacks.
If by chance White is on the field to start the year, he likely won’t be at full strength and will also need some help from Hyde in the early part of the season. The veteran safety has shown that he is one of the top safeties in the NFL, even if he sometimes is underappreciated and will keep the secondary on track in the early part of the season.
