Buffalo Bills Free Agent Target: Sheldon Richardson

Folorunso Fatukasi is one of the best run-stuffing defensive tackles in the league but there are concerns that he doesn’t necessarily fit in a 4-3 defense and is better suited as a nose tackle in a 3-4 defense. This is why I think Sheldon Richardson makes more sense for Buffalo if they hope to improve the run defense.

He is older than Fatukasi at 31 years old so he isn’t necessarily a long-term solution but likely wouldn’t command the type of contract that Fatukasi might expect to get. The Bills also rotate on their defensive line frequently which can help manage the workload for Richardson.

Richardson has proven to be a very durable defensive tackle over the past few years as he has not missed a single game over the past four years and dating back to 2016 has missed only two regular season games. While he is a good run defender, he also does bring some pass-rush with three or more sacks in three of the past four seasons.

If the Buffalo Bills were to sign Sheldon Richardson, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the Buffalo Bills also draft a player at the position that can help create that rotation at the one-tech next to Ed Oliver.
