How can the Buffalo Bills improve the defensive tackle position in free agency?

The interior of the defensive line will likely look very different than it did last season. The Bills will still have Ed Oliver, who general manager Brandon Beane already said would be picking up his fifth year option and will remain with the team through 2023. However, after him, there are a number of question marks.

The Bills have three players set to be free agents in Harrison Phillips, Vernon Butler and Justin Zimmer with Phillips being potentially the biggest loss for this defense. He finished the year very well and had moved into the role of being a starter alongside Oliver.

Aside from the players who could leave in free agency, the Buffalo Bills also need to decide what to do with Star Lotulelei. The veteran struggled to stay healthy last year and this year is commanding a big cap hit.

Unfortunately, Buffalo would not save much in terms of salary cap if they were to release him so he may remain in hopes that he can return to the level he showed earlier in his time with the Bills.

The Buffalo Bills certainly have some work to do at this position and could look at a number of different players in free agency as they can use both run-stuffing defensive tackles as well as penetrating tackles to rotate with Ed Oliver. These are three players that they could consider signing this offseason.
