Buffalo Bills: 3 potential teams to call about a Devin Singletary trade
As the countdown to the 2021 NFL Draft can be looked at in hours instead of days, the Buffalo Bills have some decisions to make. One is what they will do at 30th overall if they stay there. One potentially fruitful move the Bills could make Thursday night is drafting Clemson’s Travis Etienne. However, if they were to select Etienne the question becomes what they do with Devin Singletary?
Embarking on his third season in the NFL, Devin Singletary has been a solid running back. He has done everything the Buffalo Bills have asked of him, which means taking a back seat to the passing game. That said, Singletary has not shown he has the ability to turn into a superstar like Derrick Henry, Dalvin Cook or a Christian McCaffrey. While those players are ‘unicorns’ at the position and in a league of their own, Buffalo could benefit greatly from a player who possesses some of those players’ traits; Singletary does not.
What Singletary does do is provide great quickness with the ability to make the first tackler miss. While that trait is certainly one that you want in a franchise running back, the ability to do it consistently has been his struggle. Some of the criticisms that fall on him are unfair as Brian Daboll has, essentially, shown time after time that he is not one to establish the run. In fact, Daboll has completely abandoned the run game and continued to put the ball into his star quarterback’s hands.
Where the Bills could benefit from selecting a player like Travis Etienne, is they are getting a star. Singletary was a known name at FAU, but Etienne’s is known around the nation. Rushing for nearly 1,00 yards in Clemon’s all-ACC schedule, Ettienne, alongside Trevor Lawerence, cruised to a College Football Playoff. His body of work through four years with the Tigers includes 4,952 rushing yards, 1,152 receiving yards, and 78 combined touchdowns. Etienne also holds an FBS record for most touchdowns scored in a career with 46 in only 55 games.
If the Bills were to select Etienne, they would have to find a potential trade partner. These are teams that could trade for Devin Singletary.
