Buffalo Bills: Position grades from Week 1 against the New York Jets

Buffalo Bills Linebackers
The linebacker position faced probably the most adversity because they lost their top two linebackers, Matt Milano and Tremaine Edmunds to injury at different points in the game. They also saw Tyrel Dodson, who stepped in for the injured linebackers, leave early with an injury of his own.
The depth was clearly tested and it was evident of the performance of the defense as a whole once Milano and Edmunds left the game. However, with the adversity they faced this group did a good job ensuring the Jets didn’t gain momentum and put more points on the board.

Buffalo Bills Secondary
The Buffalo Bills pass defense was one of the best in the NFL last year and they played like that again today. Sam Darnold finished with 215 passing yards and one touchdown however 69 passing yards came on one play, which was the touchdown pass to Jamison Crowder.
Even though Crowder did get that one touchdown, Taron Johnson did a good job covering the Jets’ best wide receiver for most of the game.
Jordan Poyer also had a good game with four total tackles and a forced fumble in the second half that was really a turning point in the game. At that time, the Bills were up 21-10 and after the fumble, the Bills were able to get a field goal and extend their lead to 14.
