Nick Marshall – Cornerback

With the level of play from CFL corners being elevated in the prior seasons, many of the league’s top defensive players have already been picked up by teams.

Last year’s top cornerback in Winston Rose, who led the league with nine interceptions signed with the Cincinnati Bengals. Behind him with seven interceptions was Tre Roberson who signed with the Chicago Bears. But, there is still one name left from the 2019 season who outperformed and that was Nick Marshall of the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

Marshall, 28, comes with both corner experience from his time at Georgia and quarterback experience as he played for their rival Aurbin Tigers as well. Marshall made the transition in 2014 and was the quarterback for the Tigers during their 2014 BCS National Championship Game, which the Tigers lost to Florida State. During his time with the Tigers, Marshall completed 320 of 532 pass attempts for 4,508 yards with 34 touchdowns but went undrafted. Following the conclusion of the NFL Draft, he signed the Jacksonville Jaguars but was cut. He would later sign with the New York Jets but failed to secure a roster spot again.

Marshall was an instrumental piece in the ‘Riders’ success last season winning the West last year. With a 13-5 record, Marshall’s presence in the secondary was palpable as he established a ‘no-fly zone’ in the ‘Riders secondary, picking off five passes for 121 yards and racking up 39 total tackles on the season.

With the Bills looking for added depth at the corner position Mashall could produce in the nickel position similar to Taron Johnson.
