The new league year starts on Mar. 10 and with that comes another year of free agency. This year boasts a ton of talent hitting the open market with names like Julius Thomas, Vince Wilfork, Demarco Murray, and Devin McCourty. None, however, are as big as Ndamukong Suh.

For the first time in his six-year career, the former Nebraska Cornhusker is free to explore lucrative offers from potential NFL suitors and is expected to make a big impact on the first day teams are free to sign. How big of an impact is Suh going to make? ESPN Insider Mark Dominik stated “Detroit Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh was the best free agent to hit the open market since Reggie White”. If you’re not familiar, White was a first-ballot hall-of-famer in 2006 that spent 15 seasons in the league (1985-1998, 2000) with the Philadelphia Eagles, Green Bay Packers, and Carolina Panthers.
So what’s in store for Suh in terms of potential landing spots? The Oakland Raiders and Jacksonville Jaguars are both great fits in terms of schemes and cap room. But an unlikely candidate to move in as the front runner for Suh’s services is Buffalo Bills’ AFC East foe, the Miami Dolphins.
Currently Miami is working with just under $12 million in cap room (not minus the $5.2 million that’ll be used on draft picks) but that number is expected to increase with more cuts likely on the way. To land Suh, they’ll need to clear an expected amount of $10 more million in space. While that’ll be tough, it’s certainly a possibility and with that being said, Buffalo would then be forced to face Suh twice a year.
The struggles the Bills faced last year on the offensive line were quite obvious. While the tackles spots had their own struggles at times, the guards struggled all season, and if they’re not addressed in the coming months it could be their achilles heel in 2015.
SideLion Report
The left guard spot is expected to be filled by former Dolphin and bully-gate scapegoat Richie Incognito; after being handed a suspension by the Miami organization in the middle of 2013, Incognito spent all of 2014 employed and signed by Buffalo this offseason. He can handle his own there but the right side is up for grabs.
There’s plenty of options in free agency with both Mike Iupati and Orlando Franklin being big targets. Either one could step right in and bring a big boost that the whole line needs. They could also look in house and move forward with Cyrus Kouandjio, a player that’s working hard this offseason to get better and improve off of his lack-luster rookie season.
Regardless of what happens between the Dolphins and Suh, expect Buffalo to make the guard spot a priority going forward. But if they don’t, and Miami lands the biggest fish in the free agent pool, their offense will be in heaps of trouble and working overtime against the Dolphins defense in ’15.
