Bills Failure Chronicles – September 21, 2003: Dolphins 17, Bills 7

AUTHOR: | IN: Failure | COMMENTS: None Yet

It’s tough to be a Bills fan. We’ve suffered through some awful, heartbreaking losses. Each week, we’ll take a look at one awful game from years past in a feature called Bills Failure Chronicles. With all the problems the Bills have had in recent seasons, you might think it would be hard to pick one’s least favorite Bills season. The year that frustrated you and enraged you the most. The year where your hopes were dashed even more brutally than usual. Can one terrible season really stand above the rest? Absolutely. The 2003 Buffalo Bills still make so upset I [...]

Buffalo Bills versus the AFC East: RBs

AUTHOR: | IN: AFC East, Bills Coaching, Bills Offense, Draft, Miami Dolphins, New England Patriots, New York Jets, Popular, Rookies | COMMENTS: None Yet

The RB position is critical to every offense in the NFL.  Especially because we see about 3 in every game for each team.  Gone are the days where Squirmin’ Thurman would play from the first snap to the V-Formation.  We’ve seen the advent of Wildcat offenses, running by committee, 3rd down backs, throwing out of the backfield, Goal Line specialists?  The prototype? There is no prototype any more! Speedsters like Dexter McCluster can double as WR, splitting out wide to gash you wide open and mess your defense way up. Giant bruisers like Brandon Jacobs can run between [...]

Roger Goodell Continues to Push for 18-Game Season

AUTHOR: | IN: Labor News | COMMENTS: None Yet

So I’ve made no secret that I’m completely on the players’ side in this whole lockout mess. A big part of the reason for that is that I simply cannot stand NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell. One reason for my dislike is his bizarre insistence that EVERY FAN wants an 18-game NFL season. He was at it again in a recent conference call with Titans’ season ticket holders: Goodell on an 18-game season: “We do think it is attractive to season-ticket holders. I hear that all of the time from our season-ticket holders. We have not abandoned our position on that. [...]

Post-Draft Roster Analysis – Guard/Center

AUTHOR: | IN: Bills Offense, Uncategorized | COMMENTS: None Yet

Now that the dust of the 2011 Draft has settled, it’s time to analyze the current state of Buffalo’s roster. We’ll be taking a look at one position at a time. Today: OT. (Previous editions: QB, RB, FB, WR, TE, OT) As opposed to the barren wasteland that is Buffalo’s tackle situation, the interior of the line actually looks pretty good. I’d say there are at least four to six guys who could be pretty decent NFL starters. (Okay, six is pushing it.) But still, there’s a lot to like here and a lot of directions Chan Gailey could decide to go with the lineup. [...]

Not Surprisingly, No Mainstream Love for Kyle Williams

AUTHOR: | IN: Bills Defense, The Media | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

Earlier this month, we mentioned how the fine folks at Pro Football Focus think very highly of Bills DT Kyle Williams. VERY highly. As in “think he’s the third-best player in the entire league” highly. PFF’s Khaled Elsayed recently wrote a defense of Williams’s high ranking for any doubters. I love PFF and the work they’re doing. We’ve talked a bit about the site before, but basically PFF’s mission is to break down every single NFL snap, player by player, and truly evaluate each NFL competitor. The results sometimes fly completely in the face of  ”conventional” NFL wisdom. Definitely worth [...]

Buffalo Bills versus the AFC East : DTs

AUTHOR: | IN: AFC East, Bills Coaching, Bills Defense, Draft, Miami Dolphins, New England Patriots, New York Jets, Popular, Rookies, Uncategorized | COMMENTS: None Yet

The DT position is the focal point in a 3-4 defense, almost as important as a MLB in a 4-3 and a QB in any offensive system (except Miami’s).   All four defenses in the AFC East use the 3-4 at least some of the time,  making the DT position the most important to lock down in my mind.  If you don’t have one, well just look at what happened to Buffalo and their ability to stop the rush last year.  Who will be the next lockdown, gap-filling, run-stopping, scare-the-bajeebies-out-of-quarterbacks player? Whose defense will the AFC East running backs hate to [...]

Bills Failure Chronicles – Terrible QB Edition: Sh**ty Todd Collins

AUTHOR: | IN: Failure | COMMENTS: None Yet

It’s tough to be a Bills fan. We’ve suffered through some awful, heartbreaking losses. Each week, we’ll take a look at one awful game (or player!) from years past in a feature called Bills Failure Chronicles. This week, we examine the (thankfully) brief Todd Collins era in Buffalo. After writing last week’s Failure Chronicles, which examined Jim Kelly’s final game, it seemed appropriate to follow up with his terrible replacement, Todd Collins. Man, he sucked. Background: I don’t actually remember how I became a Bills fan. No one around me growing up was a Buffalo fan. My dad was/still is [...]

Buddy Nix’s Chargers and the 2011 Draft class

AUTHOR: | IN: Uncategorized | COMMENTS: None Yet

I saw someone dissecting Mike Shanahan’s draft record and thought that it was a fantastic idea to do with Buddy. I did not really know what to expect because I had heard nothing about his draft record here so I assumed it was either bad or mediocre. I really have not heard anything and looked to his numbers at San Diego. While he was not the GM at San Diego he was, as Wikipedia puts it, “Nix’s job with the Chargers was to oversee both pro and college scouting and to be one of the main decision makers in each [...]
