With the NFL offseason in full swing, options for the Buffalo Bills to solve their issues at wide receiver are popping up all over the league.
And it’s not just because veteran receivers have spoken up about wanting to play with Josh Allen or because a draft prospect did the same thing. It’s because other teams around the league are still going through their own chaos, too.
On Friday, the Minnesota Vikings fired their general manager, Kwesi Adofo-Mensah, after four years with the team. With Sam Darnold playing in Super Bowl LX for the Seattle Seahawks, one season after he led the Vikings to a 14-2 record, all while J.J. McCarthy disappointed in his first season as the starter, tensions were understandably high in Minnesota.
Adofo-Mensah’s draft classes and personnel decisions haven’t worked out as intended, and after four seasons in Minnesota, he’s out. That leaves the Vikings in a precarious position, as they turn to Executive Vice President of Football Operations, Rob Brzezinski, to lead the organization through the 2026 NFL Draft.
In the meantime, teams around the league are surely taking a second glance at the roster to see which trade targets they might be interested in. The Buffalo Bills reportedly already had one in mind, and with the power shift in Minnesota, the wide receiver they covet may have just become available in the wake of Adofo-Mensah’s firing.
Bills' best chance to strike a trade for Vikings WR just opened up
San Francisco 49ers reporter Grant Cohn said earlier this month that the Bills were one of several teams, alongside the Niners, who had shown interest in trading for wide receiver Jordan Addison. If Cohn’s sources are correct, then Buffalo just got the invitation to dial up the Vikings’ front office.
Of course, some teams might try to shoot for the moon in this situation and try to scoop up Justin Jefferson. Never say never in the NFL, but until there are legitimate rumblings that he wants out, it’s just a pipe dream.
Addison is easier to acquire as a buy-low option. The former first-round pick in 2022 got off to an impressive start in his rookie season, but his production on the field has dropped while issues off the field have been stacking up. Addison has been arrested three times since entering the NFL, giving Minnesota plenty of reason to ship him elsewhere.
Of course, that’s a significant gamble for Brandon Beane to consider. Is a fresh new environment in Joe Brady’s offense with Josh Allen cemented at quarterback the opportunity Addison needs to get his career back on track, or is he going to face the same hurdles in Buffalo as he did in Minnesota?
If the gamble paid off, then Allen would get a talented wideout added to the group. More work would need to be done to flesh out the receiver group, of course, as Addison would obviously need to prove his reliability over time. Beyond that, gauging Addison’s upside is tough when there isn’t an entrenched No. 1 receiver in Buffalo like Minnesota has in Jefferson.
Still, it’s probably safe to say that many Bills fans would feel more comfortable pursuing a wide receiver with less baggage, and there are certainly options that would fit the bill.
