One of the Buffalo Bills' biggest needs this offseason is undoubtedly the wide receiver room. Just how they go about acquiring some help is the question. New general manager Brandon Beane not only has to crunch the numbers to make any moves this offseason, but he’s also leading the charge to find the franchise a new head coach.
Nonetheless, whoever that new head coach may be, he’s going to want more reliable targets for Josh Allen next season.
According to a report from San Francisco 49ers reporter Grant Cohn, the Niners are interested in a wide receiver trade target that the Bills also have an eye on: Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Jordan Addison.
49ers Reporter says Buffalo Bills "like" Vikings' Jordan Addison as offseason trade target
“The wide receiver [the 49ers] are initially targeting, in a trade, is Jordan Addison,” Cohn said in a video posted on X Wednesday afternoon. “So, apparently, from what I heard, there have already been initial discussions between the two teams on a trade. I don’t know if the Niners have made an offer. I don’t know if they’ll ultimately get him, because other teams are probably going to want him. I’m hearing Buffalo is the team that would like Jordan Addison.”

As Cohn pointed out in his video, the Bills have a recent trade history with the Vikings, of course, that being the 2020 trade for Stefon Diggs.
Addison is entering his fourth season, and as a former first overall pick, the Vikings have to decide if they want to pick up his fifth-year option. There’s reason to believe the Vikings would move on with Jalen Nalor on the roster and Addison’s troubled first three seasons, which include a statistical downturn each of the past two seasons from an exciting rookie campaign. He has also been arrested three times, first for speeding at 140 miles per hour, next for a DUI, which he pleaded no contest to, and most recently for trespassing, charges for which were dropped on Wednesday.
While that’s a lot of baggage, Addison turns just 24 years old on Tuesday. A change of scenery may be the help he needs to get his once-promising career back on track.
Cohn floated his trade package suggestions for the 49ers to send maybe a second or third-rounder, or a player and a mid-round pick to Minnesota for Addison. That might be a bit rich considering the off-the-field concerns, though that may be where Buffalo finds its advantage. The Bills could trade one young, disgruntled receiver for another.
Bills could solve solve their obvious Keon Coleman delimma with Addison trade
After all, Keon Coleman would be justified in asking for a trade himself after Terry Pegula willingly stepped in to throw the 23-year-old receiver under the bus to defend Brandon Beane's decision to draft him. Pegula said on Wednesday that it wasn’t Beane’s idea to draft Coleman; it was Sean McDermott’s coaching staff that advised the pick.
Video of Beane showing excitement about Coleman’s 40-time and saying in a documentary-like setting that he was intent on drafting Coleman the night before seemed to contradict that statement.
Nonetheless, Bills fans don’t have much reason to believe Coleman will be on the roster through the offseason. Swapping Coleman for Addison and late picks between the teams might be all it takes to put both of the young wideouts in fresh new environments where they can hopefully thrive.
Still, both teams know that in such a trade, each team would be getting players with off-the-field concerns and on-the-field inconsistencies.
Of course, adding Addison is not the ultimate solution to Buffalo’s wide receiver room. Until Addison proved otherwise, it would be a lateral step. Still, if the Bills are interested in Addison, it gives Bills Mafia an idea of what direction the Beane is looking when it comes to building the 2026 roster for the franchise’s next head coach.
