The Buffalo Bills needed every bit of Josh Allen's talent to pull out a win against the New Orleans Saints, as a team that everyone expected to lay down and die as a two-score underdog were in this game right up until the end of the fourth quarter. Unfortunately, Josh Allen took over.
The key play that ultimately sunk New Orleans' insane upset attempt was a 27-yard scramble deep into Saints territory as the Bills were trying to put this game away. Right after that run, Allen connected with a wide-open Dalton Kincaid for a touchdown pass that but Buffalo in front for good.
Despite the razor-thin scoreline, head coach Sean McDermott was well aware of the fact that they had a game-changer in Allen who could take over whenever he wants too.
McDermott said that Allen had "that look in his eye" when he saw him at halftime, all while crediting his "will to win" as the main reason that he was able to rally the troops. Allen was not going to let his Super Bowl contender of a team run into a roadblock this easy to clear.
Sean McDermott shouts out Josh Allen's "will to win" after Saints victory
While the Bills may be an unblemished 4-0 on the season, those wins haven't always come in dominating fashion. Buffalo needed some big plays to be made to take home wins against the winless Saints and Dolphins and a miracle to pull off their Week 1 victory against the Ravens.
Allen threw his first interception of the year to Saints rookie Jonas Sanker, and there was a period in the middle of this game where the offense couldn't get anything going through the air. Luckily for the Bills, Allen was able to flip the switch he always seems to flip when Buffalo needs it, and it led to a Buffalo victory.
Ahead of a Sunday Night duel against Drake Maye and the New England Patriots, the Bills have some clear flaws that they need to fix. The run defense was beaten up by Alvin Kamara and Kendre Miller, and the passing game went into another lull without too much production.
However, when you have an absolute force multiplier like Allen at your disposal, holes like the ones on this Buffalo offense can easily be papered over. Allen's ability to come through in the clutch is why this 2025 Bills team might finally break through in the AFC.
