Building a powerhouse NFL roster is a tough task for any general manager in the business. Some make it look easy, while others never get the chance to get the time to truly build it. As for Brandon Beane, he has done a great job over the years for the Buffalo Bills as he has helped not only build a great culture in Buffalo, but also a winning team.
Even though Beane has done a great job at building the roster, there seems to always be one glaring need in the public’s eye. A lot of people seem to think it’s wide receiver, but we all know how Beane feels about those opinions. One other position that could be considered a bit of a weakness is safety on the defense.
Last season was the first year without Micah Hyde and Jordan Poyer in Buffalo, so the Bills had to do a little bit of a trial without them. Last season, the Bills went with Taylor Rapp and Damar Hamlin as their primary starters before Cole Bishop started getting more playing time down the stretch. They also sometimes had Cam Lewis play in centerfield if an injury happened.
There was one safety that the Bills signed this offseason that seemed like a great signing at the time, but now with training camp approaching, you have to wonder if he will even make the final roster just based on the familiarity with the coaching staff.
Will S Darrick Forrest make the final 53-man roster?
The Bills signed Darrick Forrest to a very cheap one-year deal, making it possible for him to not make the roster just based on the contract that the Bills gave him. At the same time, you can easily say that about Damar Hamlin who returned to Buffalo on a one-year deal as well. However, this regime in Buffalo drafted Hamlin and he is a fan-favorite amongst Bills Mafia.
In addition to Hamlin, the Bills also have Taylor Rapp who is the Bills’ best safety and Cole Bishop who was a second round pick for the Bills in 2024. Both Rapp and Bishop are pretty much guaranteed to make the roster. So, it could be a battle between Forrest and Hamlin to join them.
Hamlin has the continuity advantage over Forrest so unless Forrest completely shines in training camp ahead of Hamlin, he might not even be one-and-done in Buffalo. He might get released prior to the start of the 2025 season.
