On paper, the Buffalo Bills' offense should be an explosive unit under first-year head coach Joe Brady, who will call the offensive plays. With a revamped receiving core and an experienced offensive line that lost only two key players overall, both will have to be on top of their game.

The league is seeing a renaissance of fast, athletic linebackers ready to make the important plays whenever they face the Bills.

Hopefully, the offense will be prepping by going up against their own skilled linebackers in practice under the new aggressive 3-4 scheme led by defensive coordinator Jim Leonhard. If the Bills can't have their offensive players reach the second level in key games this year, it could be a long season for a unit led by superstar quarterback Josh Allen.

Let's take a look at the top 5 linebackers that could wreak havoc for the Bills this season.

Top 5 linebackers who could cause the Bills nightmares in 2026

5.) Nick Bolton- Kansas City Chiefs (Week 12)

Nick Bolton is a hardworking linebacker who has built a reputation as one of the NFL's best run-stopping linebackers on that rock-solid Kansas City defense. It also helps that he's coached by one of the game's best defensive coordinators in Steve Spagnuolo.

Spagnuolo is one of a kind, as you never know what type of looks he's going to show an offense on any given Sunday. He will draw up blitzes at certain moments during the playoffs to sack the quarterback or run a Wide-9 gap to stop the run.

If the Bills want to win this game and neutralize Bolton, they have to be able to run right at the middle of the defense, which always begins and ends with James Cook, as he is the reigning rushing champ.

4.) Quay Walker- Las Vegas Raiders (Week 6)

After four seasons playing for the Green Bay Packers, Quay Walker will be one of the key veterans in the Raiders' linebacker unit, helping boost a rebuilding squad led by rookie head coach Klint Kubiak and possibly rookie quarterback Fernando Mendoza.

Walker can help both those guys on the offense by doing his best to limit the Bills' passing attack and throw Allen off his game. The talented linebacker is a game wrecker and isn't afraid to lay an old-school hit within today's rules.

Should the Bills drop this game, it will really put a damper on a season that looks like the Bills should regain the AFC East title from the New England Patriots this season.

3.) Blake Cashman- Minnesota Vikings (Week 9)

Blake Cashman has taken advantage of the situation he's in with the Minnesota Vikings, playing in an attacking defensive style under defensive coordinator Brian Flores. Like Spagnuolo in Kansas City, Flores likes to set up blitz packages at any moment and disguise different coverages to help his players succeed.

Cashman has fit this defense perfectly, averaging 9.5 tackles a game the last two years with the Vikings, and is a Top 5 linebacker when healthy.

If the Bills can contain Cashman by reaching the second level, the team will be looking at a huge road win in Week 9 of the season.

2.) Roquan Smith- Baltimore Ravens (Week 8)

One of the most consistent linebackers in the league since 2021, Roquan Smith is always in the right place to make a tackle and is a key reason why Baltimore remained a top defense in 2025.

The Bills' offensive line will have to be physical enough at the line of scrimmage to neutralize Smith, allowing Cook to accelerate to the second level and score touchdowns.

1.) Jordyn Brooks- Miami Dolphins (Weeks 11 and 17)

The Bills better expect Jordyn Brooks and the rest of the Dolphins team to make these two games competitive. Despite a new coaching staff and extremely low expectations in Year 1, Brooks has been the one constant, especially during last year's Dolphins' upset of the Bills at home in Week 10.

Throughout the 2025 campaign, he recorded a league-leading 183 combined tackles and even had games in which he sacked Allen a few times against Buffalo.

The Bills' O-line must be better this year in the pass game, especially when they look over at the Dolphins' defense and see Brooks ready to sack the Bills' quarterback again.
