If the Buffalo Bills were planning on trading back or even out of the first round of the NFL Draft, the Los Angeles Rams may have just screwed them. The Rams, who had the 13th pick that they acquired from the Atlanta Falcons in last year’s draft, have decided to prepare for life after Matthew Stafford as they have selected QB Ty Simpson out of Alabama.

Now granted, this may have been a massive reach for the Rams but they needed to get someone who could succeed Stafford as his time in the NFL is coming to an end sooner than later. However, they now have a plan for the future of their offense.

Simpson being drafted this high may have just screwed the Bills’ draft plans if they were planning on trading back or out of the first round to gain more draft picks.

Rams picking Ty Simpson may have just screwed Bills' first round draft plans

There was a lot of speculation that Simpson could possibly go near the end of the first round, but in a trade-up scenario. With the Bills having the 26th overall pick, they were in a prime position to trade back and gain picks for this year and maybe even next year. A team like the Arizona Cardinals could have been a potential trade partner, but now the Cardinals will instead face him twice a year once Stafford steps away from the league.

Buffalo has a ton of needs to address, especially on defense. They need to gather more draft capital, but now they may not get a trade partner unless there is an available prospect that a team desperately wants.

It is very weird to say that a scenario involving Ty Simpson could be the reason why the Bills may miss out on the opportunity to gain extra draft capital, but here we are.

The Bills may not have to pivot and decide which direction to go if their original plan was to trade back. They could still go with a wide receiver, an edge rusher, or maybe even add a linebacker like Jacob Rodriguez

There are still plenty of options, but the possibility of them trading back may have just went out the window. We will find out here very soon.
