It’s hard to believe that it’s already October and that the first month of the NFL season is in the books. The Buffalo Bills made the most of their first four games with going 4-0 and now they turn their attention to the New England Patriots, who are looking to come into Orchard Park and pull off an upset.
Throughout the month of October, fans should expect to see a lot of trade rumors coming up with the trade deadline being on Tuesday, November 4th at 4PM EST. We have seen the Bills make trades at the deadline, but we also see them not making a single move. Their last trade that they made at the deadline was acquiring cornerback Rasul Douglas from the Green Bay Packers back in 2023.
If one thing is true about this Bills team, it’s that their defense needs to improve or the Bills need to make a move to improve it. They have one of the worst run-defenses in the league and their secondary is being very inconsistent. Not to mention, first-round rookie Maxwell Hairston has been on the IR with a knee injury he suffered in the summer.
Matt Verderame and Gilberto Manzano from Sports Illustrated recently put together mock trades that each team should make prior to the deadline, and when it came to the Bills, they had the Bills trading for cornerback Alontae Taylor from the New Orleans Saints in exchange for a fourth round pick.
"Buffalo has one of the league’s elite offenses, evidenced by its AFC-best 133 points. Yet, the defense has been a problem, sitting 18th in EPA per play (0.016) and 25th on third down (42.0%), despite facing Justin Fields, Tua Tagovailoa and Spencer Rattler over the past three weeks. Trading for Taylor would bolster a secondary relying on the eventual return of rookie Maxwell Hairston and veteran Tre’Davious White."Verderame & Manzano, SI
Bills are better off trading for defensive line help
While it’s a great idea for the Bills to trade for defensive help, it should be for the defensive line rather than at corner. Buffalo has been terrible against the run so it makes more sense to trade for some defensive line help. I know that Ed Oliver has been injured and Larry Ogunjobi is still serving his six-game suspension, but even then, having a true difference maker in the middle of the line should not be hard to realize.
If Buffalo keeps their winning streak going but are still hurting on defense, Brandon Beane must pick up the phone and see how he can build this championship roster even more to make a run at the Super Bowl.
