The biggest takeaway from the 2024 preseason for the Buffalo Bills was the constant adversity they faced with injuries. Going up against the Chicago Bears and Pittsburgh Steelers, the Bills were dealt a bad hand when it came to losing multiple players for multiple weeks due to injury.

It got so bad at one point, the Bills had to sign two new quarterbacks in Ben DiNucci and Anthony Brown after they lost Shane Buechele (neck) and Mitch Trubisky (knee) just to get them through the preseason. The injuries that the Bills had to endure really limited them on offense and fans should be beyond happy that the preseason is finally over.

Heading into this Week 3 matchup against the Carolina Panthers, the Bills just needed to get out of this game at full health and avoid any more setbacks. That is exactly what they did and now the focus can turn to getting their injured players better and focusing on the Arizona Cardinals.

Even though the Bills fell to 1-2 in the preseason after losing 31-26 to the Panthers, there was one player who shined for the Bills. Quarterback Ben DiNucci started on offense for Buffalo and led the Bills to their first touchdown of the preseason. During the second quarter, DiNucci connected with running back Darryton Evans for an 18-yard touchdown pass that gave the Bills an 11-7 lead.

Before being taken out for the game, DiNucci finished the game going 11/15 for 76 yards and one touchdown. Sean McDermott gave high praise to DiNucci’s performance after the game, per Chris Brown.

The Buffalo Bills may have their QB3 in Ben DiNucci

Until we learn just how serious Trubisky’s knee injury is, Bills fans might be seeing DiNucci on the roster as the backup, or atleast make it onto the practice squad. He was signed to the roster going into last week’s game against Pittsburgh and he did the best he could considering the fact he only had four days to learn the entire offense.

This was a different story against Carolina and DiNucci looked comfortable in the pocket and avoided making any major mistakes. As Brandon Beane gets ready to start making the difficult roster decision, DiNucci may have presented a case to the front office as to why he should get a practice squad spot, and maybe even be Josh Allen’s backup to start the season if Trubisky has a setback from his knee injury.
