NFL insider gives life to a Bills-Davante Adams trade in latest update

Coming off their second-straight loss, the Buffalo Bills are still in decent position at 3-2, but these past two losses have come against two very good AFC teams. It's a litttle concerning, to say the least.

One of the biggest worries over the course of the offseason was the fact that Buffalo needed a top-tier weapon for Josh Allen and the offense. Thus far, they've committed to James Cook as an integral part of the offense and other players have stepped up at times. But, this team has been lacking a true no. 1 wide receiver.

On the topic of a true no. 1 wideout, of course, enters the Davante Adams trade situation. Last Tuesday, Adams requested a trade from the Las Vegas Raiders and almost immediately it looked like he could be dealt to a team like the New York Jets.

The Jets are obviously home to one of Adams' longtime friends and former quarterbacks, Aaron Rodgers, who are also in search for a true number one wide receiver with Garrett Wilson not breaking out yet like they had hoped.

While the Jets make a lot of sense for Adams, and he does indeed want to get to New York, he's been open to playing for other teams. And, in the end, the Raiders are said to be going after the best deal possible, no matter where Adams desires to end up.

After the majority of the Week 5 action on Sunday, NFL insider Albert Breer began his column reviewing all of the storylines, and sure enough, there was a segment touching on the latest with Adams.

As of right now, we know of three teams which have made serious phone calls on Adams, according to the insider.

"Perception across the teams involved holds that Adams is trying to get to the Jets, but the Bills and Pittsburgh Steelers have called, as well," Breer wrote.

He went on to note that the price for Adams might end up needing to come down. That's been a rumor for a few days, now, but it looks more and more likely that the Raiders' asking price of a second-round pick may have to turn into more of a third-round pick plus added compensation.

There's also the feeling around the league that teams will want the Raiders to eat some of Adams' salary, not to mention figuring out future years on this deal is going to be tricky. Adams' cap number spikes to a whopping $44 million in 2025 and 2026, per Spotrac.

Can the Bills get a deal done? If they're desperate enough for that true no. 1 wide receiver, then yes, they certainly can. The real question is whether or not they're willing to outbid the Jets and also get a contract restructure done going forward.
