Josh Allen makes the wrong kind of history in Week 5 loss to Texans

There is so much that went wrong for the Buffalo Bills against the Houston Texans. On both sides of the ball, the Bills dug themselves into a massive hole in the first half that was too big to overcome in the second half. It was a tough first half for the Bills, who saw themselves down 17-3 going into halftime.

Part of the reason why they couldn’t get anything going was Josh Allen’s performance. The star quarterback put up numbers like he was a rookie all over again, but he joined the wrong side of history this week.

According to Alaina Getzenberg (per ESPN Stats Info), Allen recorded the lowest completion percentage in a game with at least 30 pass attempts in the last 30 seasons, completing 30% of his passes.

Allen finished this game 9-for-30 for 131 yards and one touchdown. Now granted, his one touchdown going for 49 yards on fourth down to Keon Coleman brought the Bills back within three points.

However, that was the only highlight that Allen showed which is uncharacteristic of him. There are many factors that went into this stat. It was a mixture of Allen making highly questionable throws, his receivers not getting separation, receivers dropping passes, and even miscommunication (specifically where Allen targeted Coleman and it hit Coleman in the back of the helmet).

Buffalo’s offense outside of James Cook looked pathetic. Whether Allen gets the partial blame or a majority of it, he needs to take accountability for his horrendous play. Completing 30% of your passes doesn’t get you far and it stands out when looking back on this game.

Usually Allen is out there making Superman-like plays for the Bills to bail them out. That certainly was not the case this time. Instead, Allen adds this to his resume for his doubters to talk about.
