Mitchell Trubisky
Yes, the Bills just signed him to a two-year deal, but that doesn’t mean they’re forced to keep him. In his second stint with the team, Trubisky is summoned to once again be Josh Allen’s backup, and hopefully not see the field for anything more than kneel-downs. Brandon Beane signed him to a two-year/$5.2M deal that includes an out in 2025. If released, Buffalo saves $2.5M in cap space with only $750k in dead cap, according to Spotrac.
After leaving Buffalo in 2022, Mitch Trubisky would sign a contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers to become their new starter while Kenny Pickett sat in the wings. However, after a bad first season that led to his benching, and being demoted to QB3 just last year, the Steelers decided to part ways. Trubisky would find a job back in Buffalo less than one month later.
The Bills don’t need to have a big-name backup quarterback to Josh Allen as they once did and would suffice with a late-round rookie/small contract backup. With a projected 34 free agents in 2025, the Bills could use some of their backup quarterback money to bring back some of their own guys. The Bills have had a revolving door behind Josh Allen since entering the league. Some good, and some bad. Bringing Mitch Trubisky back is good for morale, but I don't see this lasting more than one season.
