Buffalo Bills vs. Houston Texans final inactives list for Week 5
By Brandon Ray
In what should be considered game of the week, NFL fans will get ready to watch the Buffalo Bills take on the Houston Texans for an early 1PM ET game. Both teams are coming in at 3-1 and it will be the first time that Stefon Diggs will see his old team since being traded to the Texans. Two weeks ago, Diggs faced off against the Minnesota Vikings, the team who drafted him in 2015. Now he gets to take on the team that helped him blossom into a top five receiver back in 2020.
However, the overall storyline should be two teams facing off against each other who could easily see each other again in January. Both teams are facing injuries that will force them to adjust their gameplan.
We all know how the Bills have been decimated with injuries since Week 1. We learned this past Friday that the Bills have already ruled out WR Khalil Shakir, DT Ed Oliver, DT Austin Johnson, and S Taylor Rapp. Three starters already being ruled will make life a lot more difficult for the Bills. As far as CB Taron Johnson and LB Terrel Bernard, they were both limited participants in practice all week and they were listed as questionable heading into this game.
As far as the Texans, their Friday injury report showed us the little disadvantage they will have. Their Friday injury report listed DE Derek Barnett, former Buffalo Bill DE Jerry Hughes, and RB Joe Mixon all out against the Bills. In addition, they had six players listed as questionable including RB Dameon Pierce. With both of their running backs facing injuries, Buffalo’s rush defense has a massive advantage going into this game.
The final inactives list were released at 11:30AM ET and we take a look at them:
Buffalo Bills Week 5 Inactives
-WR Khalil Shakir
-DT Ed Oliver
-DT Austin Johnson
-S Taylor Rapp
-CB Taron Johnson
-LB Edefuan Ulofoshio
-OL Will Clapp
It looks like Johnson is still not ready to go, but Bills fans will see Terrel Bernard back on the field for the defense. One important note to make about this list is the official debut for wide receiver Tyrell Shavers, who was brought up from the practice squad. In addition, Joe Andreessen will dress once again for the Bills' defense, making it his third consecutive game suiting up for the Bills.
Houston Texans Week 5 Inactives
-RB Joe Mixon
-RB Dameon Pierce
-LB Jake Hansen
-OL Tytus Howard
-WR Steven Sims
-DE Derek Barnett
The Texans' running game looks very weak with Mixon and Pierce in the backfield. It looks C.J. Stroud will have to carry the offense against Buffalo's solid pass-defense.
