Buffalo Bills Rumors: 4 improbable trades involving Stefon Diggs
By Ryan Heckman
As Buffalo Bills mandatory minicamp gets underway, one particular star player is not present.
Wide receiver Stefon Diggs was not there for the start of camp, on Tuesday, but has been around the building, working out, according to some reports.
Without Diggs present, head coach Sean McDermott did acknowledge that he was very concerned with what is going on. Is Diggs holding out? Is he unhappy for some reason? Does he want a trade? Surely, he doesn't want a trade, right?
Before we get into some hypothetical trade scenarios, let's just establish the facts, here. The Bills can't trade Diggs without a dead cap hit of $13 million this year and a whopping $31 million next year. So, if they were to, in fact, trade him, Buffalo would need some extremely valuable compensation.
With that said, let's look at a few trades that Buffalo could execute if Diggs does indeed want out.
Trade Number 1: The Bills trade Stefon Diggs to the Baltimore Ravens
In this first scenario, Lamar Jackson becomes even richer. The Ravens could actually make a trade for Diggs work, with just a little bit of restructuring and moving money around elsewhere. Jackson already received the gifts of Odell Beckham Jr. and Zay Flowers this offseason. Imagine adding Diggs to the mix. Talk about going all-in on a Super Bowl run this season.
In this deal, the Ravens would send Rashod Bateman back to the Bills to hopefully become Buffalo's new WR1, assuming he stays healthy. Beyond Bateman, the Ravens also give up a first rounder and third rounder next year.
This is one of those deals where a team like Baltimore is saying that they are ready to win it all right now. It's also interesting to mention that star linebacker Patrick Queen is in the final year of his contract, so this would absolutely be an "all-in" scenario for the Ravens.
