O.J. Simpson - Buffalo Bills' all-time backup running back

Regardless of Simpson’s post-career story, there is no doubt he was one of the greatest backs in Buffalo Bills history.  He was the first-ever 2,000-yard rusher in the NFL and did it in a 14-game season.  In that 1973 season, not only did he rush for 2,003 yards, but he also averaged an astounding six yards per carry.

Simpson led the NFL in rushing four times in his career, between 1972 and 1976.  The 1974 season was the lone exception in the five-year stretch.  He also led the league in rushing touchdowns twice, including 16 in one season during the 1975 season.

He was a six-time Pro Bowler and voted first-team All-Pro five times in his career.  From 1972 to 1976, he never finished lower than fourth in Offensive Player of the Year voting, including winning the award in 1973.  He was also the league’s Most Valuable Player in that 1973 season.

O.J. Simpson was the first overall pick of the Buffalo Bills in the 1969 NFL Draft and was inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame in 1985.  His career rushing total of 11,236 places him 21st on the NFL’s all-time list.
