Bills’ hopes for a Davante Adams trade aren’t as cooked as we thought

We know what you're thinking: "Now what?"

Just hours ago, the Buffalo Bills were figuratively out of the running in any potential trade for star wide receiver Davante Adams. In an update provided by Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer Wednesday evening, it was said that teams interested in acquiring Adams had become "convinced" the star wide receiver would end up with the New York Jets.

In a situation like this, Adams might indeed have some pull as to where he ends up. The Raiders probably want to do right by Adams, as he's been a true professional since joining the team and might feel as though the organization didn't initially do right by him after cutting ties with his former college quarterback, Derek Carr.

So, when we saw the update from Breer stating that other teams figured Adams was all but guaranteed to be a Jet, the hope of having a chance to land him all but vanished.

As they say, this league moves quickly. Things can change in a hurry, and on Thursday morning, they had once again shifted back in the favor of teams not named the New York Jets.

After NFL Network's Ian Rapoport stated Adams had wanted to play for the Jets, the insider also said he was open to playing for other teams.

Rapoport's peer, Mike Garafolo, then took it to another level by noting the Raiders are going to do what's best for the organization.

This is precisely what a team should do in the Raiders' situation, to be frank. Taking Adams' interests into the equation is one thing, but if there's a team which significantly outbids the Jets, Las Vegas has to take that deal instead.

But, what would it take to land Adams in a trade?

The Raiders' asking price for Davante Adams is doable for the Bills

Las Vegas has already set the price for Adams, which starts at a second-round pick. The Bills have that, and if they needed to add in additional picks and maybe throw in a wide receiver like Curtis Samuel, then so be it.

Adams' contract is the more worrying aspect of this deal, overall, though. His cap number goes way up next year (over $36 million) and Brandon Beane would need to re-work the contract in a way that allows the Bills more flexibility, especially considering they're probably going to give quarterback Josh Allen some more money in the near future.

If the Raiders are specifically going to accept the best offer, overall, then the Bills are absolutely not out of this. Being able to swoop in and steal him away from Aaron Rodgers and the Jets would be icing on the cake of giving Allen an alpha wide receiver to work with.
