2. Doug Flutie

Doug Flutie began his NFL career in the late 1980s with the Chicago Bears and New England Patriots before going to the CFL. He would play very well during his time in the CFL with six CFL Most Outstanding Player awards and three Grey Cup Championships before returning to the NFL when the Bills signed him in 1998.

At the time, he was signed as the backup to Rob Johnson and wouldn't become the full-time starter until Week 7 after Johnson suffered an injury. He would go on to start 10 games where the Bills went 7-3 and Flutie threw for 18 touchdowns and 10 interceptions during that stretch and make the Pro Bowl.

Doug Flutie would enter the 1999 season as the starter and start the first 15 games but after a good performance by Rob Johnson in the season finale would be benched in the playoff game against the Tennessee Titans. The Bills would lose that game and that decision will go down as one of the worst in franchise history.

Doug Flutie would spend one more season with the Buffalo Bills, starting five games (and going 4-1) before leaving in free agency to sign with the San Diego Chargers. Doug Flutie may not have had a chance to be a full-time starter but was one of the better quarterbacks in franchise history.
