Around the NFL, teams have begun cutting down their roster as the final 53-man rosters are due by this Tuesday at 4PM. The Buffalo Bills finished their preseason yesterday with a win against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 23-19. Sean McDermott and Brandon Beane now have to do a tough part of their jobs, letting players go before Week 1.
It would not be a surprise to see the Bills make a trade or two. We have seen Beane gain some draft capital in the past after the preseason and now he has the chance to do it again after an update from another AFC team.
According to Adam Schefter, per Raiders’ head coach Pete Carroll, the Raiders are “in the market for a backup QB” and looking for “an experienced player who can help us.” Schefter reported that quarterback Aidan O’Connell fractured his wrist and that he will miss a great amount of time in the beginning of the season. Here’s the post from Schefter:
With QB Aidan O'Connell fracturing his wrist and being sidelined 6-8 weeks, Raiders HC Pete Carroll said the team now is in the market for a backup QB and it is looking for “an experienced player who can help us.”

Bills should be calling Raiders about QB Mike White
At one point, the Bills had themselves a QB2 battle between Mike White and Mitch Trubisky. However, White’s performance against the Chicago Bears in the second preseason game may have been the deciding factor on his future with the Bills, and it’s not a secure one. More than likely, Trubisky should be the backup to Josh Allen in Buffalo.
However, now that the Raiders are reportedly in the market for a backup, this would be a great opportunity for the Bills to acquire a draft pick for a quarterback that they might have intended to release anyways.
While White isn’t a proven backup quarterback, he’s a great teammate and has shown flashes here and there throughout his career with the Jets and Bills. Even if it is a late Day 3 pick, it would still be an extra pick for the Bills to have in the future.
All 32 teams must have their rosters trimmed down to the final 53 players and it wouldn’t be surprising to see the Bills make a deal to trade someone away and acquire a future later round draft pick.
