The Buffalo Bills just played one of the worst games we have seen in recent memory. Don’t get me wrong, I know it’s preseason but this matchup against the Chicago Bears was getting impossible to watch. There was no fight, no fire, and no motivation from start to finish from the Bills.
While this loss was even more discouraging than their Week 1 loss against the New York Giants, the Bills should have their answer on who will back up Josh Allen going into the regular season. Quarterbacks Mike White and Mitch Trubisky each had great performances against the Giants in their first preseason game. However, it was a different story for White.
White started out as the starter for the Bills against the Bears and he completely fell apart. He went 4/11 and threw for just 54 yards while being sacked twice. White held on to the ball too long at times, and had some questionable throws as well. He was a completely different quarterback than he was against the Giants.
QB Mike White may have cost himself a roster spot with horrendous Week 2 performance
In Buffalo’s first game against the Giants, White was a star for the Bills offense. He went 8/13 for 112 yards and 2 touchdowns, while finishing with a 128.6 rating. He looked more comfortable than Trubisky and that could have been a reason why he had the first start for the Bills against the Bears.
Instead of picking up where he left off, White completely missed the opportunity to take a step forward in the QB2 competition against Trusbisky. At this point, White may have lost the QB2 spot to Trubisky, who has backed up Allen twice in his career up to this point. So, White may have to spend some time on the practice squad if the Bills bring him back, or he may have to go somewhere else.
The Bills have their final preseason game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this coming Saturday and White has to be absolutely perfect and play like an MVP to be even considered for the backup spot for Josh Allen.
