In the latest ESPN rankings by NFL executives, coaches and scouts (per Jeremy Fowler) the quarterbacks were ranked and as most, if not all of us NFL fans expected, Josh Allen was ranked as one of the best ones and there is no debate about it. Since his third season in the league, he has become one of the best and I would highly argue that he was the best over Patrick Mahomes, Lamar Jackson, and Joe Burrow.
The MVP of last season has a brand new six-year deal and is looking to get to the Super Bowl for the first time in his career, and also bring the Lombardi Trophy to Western New York for the first time in franchise history. He did a lot last season, breaking records and literally creating history in both Bills and NFL history. The fact that some people still try to argue that Lamar Jackson is better than Allen is absolutely hilarious.
Even though Allen is the best overall quarterback in the league, there is still one major obstacle that he has to overcome; beating the Kansas City Chiefs in the playoffs. The Bills have lost to the Chiefs four of the last five postseasons and it’s been a heartbreak each time. However, we cannot blame Allen for the losses because ultimately, it’s Buffalo’s defense that has been the liability in these matchups.
Even though Bills fans know that Allen is better than Mahomes overall, Mahomes is the one who gets to celebrate at the end and until Allen finally takes him down, Allen will always be one step behind Mahomes unfortunately.
Latest QB ESPN rankings tells the honest (yet painful truth) about Josh Allen
In ESPN’s latest QB rankings of the top QBs going into the 2025, Allen was ranked in the top three which was no question he would be. However, and this might be hard to accept for some fans, he was not No. 1. Instead, he was behind Mahomes who was at the top of the list so Allen was at No. 2.
"He's done everything," an NFC personnel executive said. "He's answered every test. He makes less mistakes and takes care of the ball. Only thing left to do is win it all."NFC Executive, per Jeremy Fowler
It’s an unfortunate statement that we have to talk about when mentioning Allen because it’s true, he still has to win it all let alone get to the Super Bowl. But again, I want to emphasize that it’s not his fault that his defense can’t come up with the big stops in the playoffs against Mahomes.
Fans are hoping that Allen and the Bills can finally take down the monster that is known as the Chiefs and finally deliver Bills Mafia a Super Bowl to Buffalo.
