For the first time in his NFL career, Josh Allen will go into a season with a new head coach. Even though Joe Brady was his offensive coordinator (and will still be calling plays), it’s still a new setup that he will experience.
For the first time since 2023, Allen will also go into the season with a clear cut No. 1 wide receiver in DJ Moore, who already has experience in a Joe Brady offense. Oh, and let’s not forget, Allen has one of the best rushing attacks behind him in the backfield that is led by James Cook.
In addition, Allen will also get the chance to see what a new Bills defense under Jim Leonhard will look like. Hopefully they don't fall apart in crucial times like they have in the past.
Overall, the Bills went through a lot of changes this offseason and despite all of that, Allen is still expected to be one of the best players in the entire NFL. Not just be the best quarterback, but one of the best in the entire league.
Josh Allen still ranks among top players going into 2026
In a recent ESPN rankings of which players are projected to be the best this upcoming season, Allen is all the way near the top at No. 2 overall, making him the No. 1 overall quarterback, putting him one spot ahead of Lamar Jackson of the Baltimore Ravens.
The only player that was ranked above Allen, which should be no surprise, is Myles Garrett of the Los Angeles Rams.
"Allen is back for his ninth NFL season, armed with a new head coach (Joe Brady) who has worked closely with him since 2022 and a new No. 1 wide receiver (DJ Moore). In each of the past three seasons, Allen has scored at least 25 passing touchdowns and 10 rushing touchdowns. In NFL history, all other players combined have only two such seasons." said Alaina Getzenberg, who covers the Bills on ESPN.
"Allen has finished top-five in MVP voting in each of the past four seasons, which is tied with Peyton Manning (2003 to 2006) for the second-longest streak over the past 40 years. Tom Brady leads in that category with five straight from 2013 to 2017." per ESPN Research.
Josh Allen only behind Myles Garrett in player rankings going into 2026
I mean, it is totally fair to put Garrett ahead of Allen especially since he set the season record for most sacks last season. Now he joins a loaded Rams team that is truly going all-in for a Super Bowl.
At the same time, up until last season, Allen had five consecutive seasons of 40+ total touchdowns. Last season, he had 39 total touchdowns.
Now with new offensive pieces to work with, and a lot of promise for a defense that shouldn't let him down in the postseason, Allen is set up for a another big run for the Bills and prove that the changes that the team made only made them better.
