Josh Allen's case for MVP becomes stronger with latest recorded stat
By Brandon Ray
Each week that passes by us in the NFL season, there is always talk of the leader for the MVP award. As of right now, players like Derrick Henry, Lamar Jackson, and Josh Allen are in the conversation. While there are players that keep going in and out of the conversation, these three players are the constant names always mentioned.
There is no doubt that Henry and Jackson should be in these talks. The Ravens have the best rushing attack in the NFL and one of their best games on the season was against the Bills, rushing for 271 yards against them.
At the same time, it’s safe to say that we expected this kind of result because of the type of players Henry and Jackson are. When it comes to Josh Allen, he has done the complete opposite in his play style in terms of keep the ball safe, but not being a game manager.
Through nine games, Allen has the Bills at a 7-2 record. He also 20 total touchdowns to just two interceptions. It’s amazing to see this considering the turnovers issues that Allen has had in the past. Seeing him take control of the offense, helping them average 29 points per game and only throwing two interceptions is quite fascinating.
While this is a great case for Allen to win his first league MVP award, there is one specific stat that might put him ahead even further. According to Pro Football Focus (PFF), when Allen takes on a blitz from a defense, he has produced 12 touchdowns to just one turnover. The 12 touchdowns against the blitz currently leads the league.
Josh Allen is on his way to winning his first MVP award
While the MVP award is not the final stop for the Bills quarterback, him getting his first MVP award in a year where a lot of fans and analysts said the Bills would take a step back would be a fantastic response to the doubters. Allen finished in second place in the MVP race in the 2020 season, but came up short against Aaron Rodgers.
The fact that Allen is putting up these kinds of numbers after a transition within the offense and just recently adding Amari Cooper, Allen is showing the NFL that the Bills operate well when he is under center. If Allen was ever out of the lineup, the Bills would look a whole lot different for the worse.
