It is very hard for an NFL team to find a franchise quarterback that can elevate a roster to a championship caliber team. The Buffalo Bills were lucky to land Josh Allen back in 2018 who has built himself up into a star for the Bills and elevate this Buffalo Bills team that is right in the middle of their Super Bowl window.

He could be on his way to winning his first MVP award after a steller season while a lot of doubters said that he and the Bills were going to take a step backwards. Now they have established themselves as the rulers of the AFC East for years to come.

One of Buffalo’s biggest knocks was not getting great talent to surround Josh Allen, as they have had a revolving door of receivers and they let go of Gabe Davis and Stefon Diggs last offseason. However, their backfield never changed and there was continuity in the running back led by James Cook.

The Bills drafted Cook in the 2nd round of the 2022 NFL Draft out of Georgia and I’m willing to make the claim that teams should have looked into him more than they did. The fact that he slipped all the way down to the bottom of the second round. He’s on his way to getting back-to-back 1,000+ rushing yards and he has been a touchdown machine all year long. He has 17 total touchdowns, with 15 on the ground.

Josh Allen and James Cook have established themselves as a top QB/RB duo

According to NFL researcher Dante Koplowitz-Fleming, Josh Allen and James Cook are one of three duos this season that each have 12+ rushing touchdowns (Allen with 12 and Cook with 15). The other two duos are David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs from Detroit, and Saquon Barkley and Jalen Hurts from Philadelphia. Before the 2024 season, there has never been a duo with 12+ rushing touchdowns each.

The Bills should be very lucky to have two offensive stars on their sideline, knowing that they can cause damage against any opponent. It also helps that Buffalo’s offensive line has been the best that the Bills have had since Allen was drafted. This duo is set to run it back next year, no matter what happens this season. However, Cook is going into the final year of his rookie contract so there is a chance that 2025 could be the final year of seeing Cook with the Bills.
