Josh Allen injury update reveals Bills QB might be downplaying something bigger

Buffalo Bills fans may have bigger concerns about Josh Allen than his costly missed throw in the loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.

On Sunday, Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen had a moment to forget, but one that will likely stick with him forever, as he missed a wide open throw on what should’ve been a game-winning two-point conversion. While the costly miss lost Buffalo the game, and ended their streak of five-straight AFC East titles, the Bills are still an 11-win team headed to the postseason. Unfortunately, Buffalo now has bigger things to worry about than Allen missing a throw.

The star quarterback has been dealing with a foot issue since tweaking it against the Cleveland Browns in Week 16, but Allen has downplayed whatever’s going on. That continued after Sunday’s loss, when he expressed that he was fine and that his foot didn’t affect him any, but his postgame trip to the x-ray room tells a different story.

Josh Allen reportedly receives x-ray following Bills loss to Eagles

Media members are reporting that after Allen spoke with the media, he limped into the x-ray room with the team’s head athletic trainer, and was evaluated. The details of the evaluation are unclear, but you don’t go get an x-ray if everything is just fine. While Allen is doing everything to downplay the injury, it will clearly be something to monitor moving into the postseason.

The veteran quarterback has a reputation for his toughness and willingness to hide issues he’s going through, but the on-field product often tells the truth. On Sunday, quarterback-turned-analyst Tom Brady, who was on the call for the game, saw a quarterback being affected by a lower-body injury. Throughout the action, Brady pointed out that Allen wasn’t as mobile as usual, and wondered if the foot injury was the reason why.

The Bills quarterback finished the game with seven carries for 27 yards and two touchdowns, and was also sacked five times for a loss of 51 yards, as he completed 23-of-35 passes for 262 yards.

If Allen’s injury is actually more serious than he’s letting on, it’ll be interesting to see how the Bills handle him in the regular-season finale against the 3-13 New York Jets. The AFC East is no longer up for grabs, and Buffalo has already secured a wild card spot. However, all three AFC wild card teams (Bills, Houston Texans, and Los Angeles Chargers) are 11-5, so Week 18 results will determine final seeding.

If Allen’s health is a concern, the Bills will have to debate if a week of rest for their star quarterback is more important than playoff seeding.
