It’s no secret that Josh Allen is one of, if not the best player in the entire NFL. Going into this season, he was voted as the league’s No. 2 overall player on the NFL’s Top 100 player list, only behind Myles Garrett of the Los Angeles Rams.
He has established himself as one of those quarterbacks that can do almost anything to help the Buffalo Bills win a game. When he steps onto the field, he can put fear into opposing teams because he can throw the ball down the field with no problem, take off with his legs to pick up a first down, and he can do all of this no matter the challenges that the game throws at him.
Allen is among the elite quarterbacks along with players like Patrick Mahomes, Joe Burrow, Lamar Jackson, and Matthew Stafford. However, Allen provides more to his game than the other listed QBs in some fashion, making him the best overall.
Throughout his career, Allen has had just one head coach in Sean McDermott. Going into the 2026 season, Allen has a new head coach in Joe Brady, who has been Allen's offensive coordinator since the middle of the 2023 season. When Buffalo moved on from McDermott, the Bills should have become a huge landing spot because of Allen.
While Brady ended up getting the job, there are still plenty of current coaches and former coaches that would have liked to have the chance to coach Allen, which includes a Super Bowl-winning head coach who is set to not be on the sidelines this season for the first time in a long time.
Josh Allen gets great recognition from former Steelers' HC Mike Tomlin
Mike Tomlin, who stepped down as the head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers this past offseason, talked with Jac Collinsworth of Pro Football Focus (PFF), and Collinsworth asked Tomlin which quarterback “of this next generation” that he would want to coach, and Tomlin without hesitation said Josh Allen.
“It’d be Josh [Allen] for me, man. It just seems like he’s at his best in the most critical moments. Late in the games, he finds a way to do it. He can do it with his arms, he can do it with his legs. He looks like not only does he want it, he needs it. He’s built for it.” said Tomlin.

Most coaches should want to have opportunity to coach Josh Allen
Allen is one of those quarterbacks that can makes lives so much easier because of his skillset. He takes pressure off of the team, and he has proven it time and time again.
While Tomlin should have the opportunity to return to coaching next season, it most likely won't be with the Bills considering the fact that Brady is just entering his first season as a head coach. Unless there is an ultimate collapse with Brady this season, he will be back and Tomlin wouldn't have the chance to coach Allen.
